Donor Video:

Thank You from Venezuela

Video Length 00:01:34

RREACH, a non-profit organization, works with pastors in third-world countries. When COVID-19 hit their local economies in the spring of 2020, many of these pastors were in desperate financial situations. Some needed to pay their bills, others needed insulin, and most needed to purchase food. All had congregants stuck at home.

So, RREACH collected an offering, sending these pastors the monetary provision they desperately needed. In turn, the pastors shared their appreciation to RREACH through videos and photos.

The organization wanted a way to thank their donors for generously giving. So, they asked me, as their in-house video editor, to create something. The following video became the first of several.

Project Constraints

content

Photos and videos came in from all over the world, but four testimonials stood out.

Low Quality

These testimonials were recorded on smart phones, thus, having low resolution and low audio quality.

Foreign Language

These four pastors spoke in Spanish, requiring an English translation in the video.

Navigating these constraints, I edited the transcripts into one storyline. Then, I worked through each video, matching the Spanish with a provided translation. Later, a member of the RREACH team verified the English correctly matched the Spanish.

Design Decisions

Video Intro

The intro was set up as a template, allowing future videos to come underneath a unified campaign. Though later videos did not choose this route, the capacity was ‘baked into the pie.’

All four testimonials came from Venezuelan pastors, so the introduction establishes the location as a subtitle. The globe in background focuses on the upper half of South America, adding nice movement behind the text.

Layout

The film footage is kept small. An audio wavelength adds visual interest. The English translation is tastefully included under the wavelength

Texture

The background has two layers: the globe, as seen in the introduction, and a photo I took of wall spackling.

Use of Color

Each speaker has his own color, selected from the logo’s color palette. This decision helps viewers intuitively know when the speakers change.

Outcome

This video was well-received by RREACH’s donors. As result, we produced two more videos saying “thank you.”
